We've been taking a long hard look at the Naval forces over the last few months. Its been more of a research project than an attempt at serious addons if I'm honest. by that I mean, we've been looking at the issues surrounding the engine limits of ships and all things maritime. This has thrown up several a new addon projects and resurrected some older ones. You've got to love a good pun... For months now various ships have been creeping into videos and screenshots. Our Naval starings have produced: - CVF Carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth
- LPD: HMS Albion and Bulwark
The aim of all this has been to investigate the limits of the engine and work out what we need to script to bring practical amphibious and carrier capabilities to ArmA. Its early days but we've made some progress. CVF CarrierHMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales Britain's new class of "Super Carrier" due into service in 2016 and 2018 respectively. CVF will displace 65,000t, a size between the USA's 100,000t Nimitz Class and the French 43,000t Charles de Gaulle Class aircraft carriers, and three times larger than the 20,000t UK Invincible class carriers. | Overall Length | 284m | | Beam (Waterline) | 39m | | Beam (Overall) | 73m | | Draught (Keel to Waterline) | 11m | | Length at Waterline | 250m |
The carrier will have a maximum speed of 25kt. At 15kt the range is 10,000nm and the ship carries food, fuel and stores for an endurance of seven days between replenishments. Each ship will have a complement of typically 1,200, including 600 aircrew. The model is made up from 6 main sections with 15 AI manned weapons systems attached to the main model in the appropriate places: Right now we've chosen to limit the weapons to AI only use for several reasons. Mainly its about convenience, but there are all sorts of minor issues that pop up if you try to make them all accessible. Not least modelling issues, it would mean creating and mapping hundreds of meters of corridors connecting them together. which would probably not see much real use, would add to the existing GPU overhead and wouldn't be at all AI friendly. LPD: HMS Albion/ BulwarkAs we showed you in the Advent calender Landing Platform Docks, essentially Amphibious Assault Ships are also in our sights. There hasn't been much visible progress on the LPDs but a lot of roadway and geo LoD work has been done making the models easier and safer to walk around. I've also tunnelled out some more enterable spaces on the super structure. |

The only answer i can give you atm is "probably". There are issues with the LPD in particular that mean the well deck would be of limited use. If we can crack the problem then it shouldn't be a problem.
I've already ported the LPD and CVF to ArmA2 and its working fine but is still going to require a lot of work to get ready for release.

We may have to do that to get around the issues with the LPD. My own preference is to use the least complicated solution. In this case the games own Get in/out functions. Currently the LPD doesn't let you get inside any boats that are in the well deck. So we will need to do some more research before I can commit to anything.
