OK so i'm NOT cheating today. Although I suppose i could have. This is the Merlin HC.3 the RAF version. As you will see from some of the screen shots its still a work in progress so don't expect perfection. Merlin HC.3As with yesterday's HM1 the HC.3 is based on the EH101 (now AW101) although its closer to the stock version than the HM1 is. The biggest noticeable difference is the rear fuselage. The HC.3 has a ramp and a much larger cargo area designed to transport small vehicles and palletised equipment. Other notable differences include the DIRCM (Directed Infra Red Counter Measures) turrets and the double wheels on the main landing gear. Unlike the HM1, the HC.3’s primary role is troop transport and resupply. Intended to supplement and eventually replace the Puma HC1 the HC3 came into service in 2001. Fitting into the “medium lift” category being able to carry up to 3050kg (ramp limit) internally or up to 5440kg under slung. Due to the operational demands brought on by operation in Iraq and Afghanistan the UK MoD recently bought 6x MK512 Merlins from the Danish military to bolster the overworked Joint Helicopter Command’s fleet. These ‘new’ airframes are just about to enter regular service and have been redesignated HC.3A. Green Merlins in ArmAConsidering how simple the shape looks you would have though these would have been easy to model. I swear they are one of the most awkward models I’ve ever had to do. Both VXR and I have had real problems working on this model. This is the 5th incarnation and unless something desperately wrong I’m not remaking them again! VXR has really struggled to get the textures even close to realistic. The shape and size of the model doesn’t really lend itself to high detail texture maps it’s been a real pain getting them in game. We are planning on releasing several versions in several stages. Stage 1: RAF Versions - HC.3 - Unarmed
- HC.3 - 2x GPMG
- HC.3A - Unarmed
- HC.3A - 2x GPMG
All the versions will have a certain dusty sheen to the final textures. It seems that after a few months in Iraq no matter how often they are cleaned they still retain the sand blasted finish Stage 2: International Versions - EH-101 CSAR – Generic Gray and Roundel compatible
- MK516 CSAR – Portuguese Colours
The Feature set will include: - Dynamic Rotor System (DRS)
- Integrated Chaff & Flares
- Cargo System Support
- Radar Warning System (FCSS Required)
- Nose mounted FLIR camera with Laser Designator (game play purposes)
