Westland Lynx HMA.8

Lets get this out of the way:

These shots are from VBS2. The model is ours. The Textures are done by BIA.

Why show you the VBS2 version and not the ArmA one? Well to be honest... right now it looks a hell of a lot better than ours!

Seriously though I haven't had time to finish the config properly. Its cheating i know but the ArmA version will look rather a lot like this...honest!

OK so what the difference between a Lynx AH7 and the HMA8? Well... erm... it’s gray? It’s got wheels, radar and it’s corrosion resistant. And its natural habitat is considerably wetter than Salisbury plain.

There are two Naval Lynx versions currently serving with the Royal Navy:

  • Lynx HAS.3 - We’ll cover this in a later update.
  • HMA.8 (CMP).

The ”H” means helicopter, obviously. The “MA” means Maritime Attack. The “8” is the model number and the “CMP” stands for Combined Mods Programme. You see the HMA.8 is the evolution of the first Royal Navy HAS.2 which first saw service in the early ‘70s. Throughout its life it’s received several upgrades making it a more flexible platform. It’s also evolved to cope with the changing world. In its first incarnation the Lynx HAS.2 was designed to fly from medium size Frigates and hunt for Submarines with dipping sonar, torpedoes and depth charges. Lately as the worlds naval threats have reduced the Lynx has been upgraded to change with the times; Taking on a drugs interdiction role and anti terrorism/piracy missions.

The ArmA version sports a powerful FLIR Camera simulating the SeaOwl system on the real thing. We’re hoping to make 3 main versions of the HMA.8:

  • M3M .50Cal version as shown
  • 4x Sea Skua Version
  • 2x Depth Charge/Torpedo* Version

Of course all the usual helicopter features will be present too.

  • Dynamic Rotor System
  • Cargo System Support
  • Integrated Chaff and Flare System
  • Radar Warning Receiver (FCSS Required)

*Assuming we can make decent working torpedoes.

Truly amazing work. This goes for all the stuff you've shown so far, and I'm sure what is yet to be shown, too. Keep it up!
