Inspired by the work of BAS, who introduced the idea of visual cargo objects for the game of Operation Flashpoint. RKSL would like to expand on that original idea and introduce a generic cargo system.
Originally the cargo system was intended for RKSL heavy transport vehicles only. However the idea soon expanded into a generic system, for any Arma addon configured to support it’s functionality. It is most likely that the first stage of release, will support all the default Arma vehicles and objects, considered suitable for the system.
Compatible RKSL vehicles and objects will be introduced in the future. While initially this will only provide a limited number of transporters and cargo types, it will serve to introduce the concept to the wider community.
The system comes in two forms. The first, a script based system with no addon dependencies. The second will be in the form of an addon-based system. Both versions will share a common interface, which can be configured to use either User Actions or Dialogs.
Additional information regarding the Cargo Systems support scripts and functions, along with system settings can be found here.
Script based
Will allow mission makers to configure any vehicle or object, for storage and transportation. Although there will be no visual representation of the cargo within the script based system. It will provide a comprehensive solution, for quickly implementing, an integrated transport system, into single and multi player missions.
Addon based
The addon-based system allows for the visual representation of loaded objects, within their allocated vehicles. While this is mainly for those who prefer the aesthetics of seeing the loaded cargo, it also naturally lends itself to game play. Allowing the players, both friendly and hostile, the ability to identify the types of cargo being transported. As the system is proxy based, the additional use of computer resources is kept to a minimum. Proxies exploit objects already present within the computer’s system. In it’s simplest form, a single cargo proxy weighs in at around 2 kb. In addition, the addon-based system requires the least amount of intervention from the mission designer. The system can be implemented, simple by placing the appropriate objects via the mission editor
Features:
Multi player and single player compatible.
Multiple user interfaces.
Nested cargo, containers and crates e.t.c
Ability to support third party addons without modification to the originals.
AI compatible, using Arma’s command interface or a suite of scripted functions.
Future developments:
As mentioned already, the initial release will provide basic support for Arma’s default objects and vehicles. Future updates will incorporate, amongst other things, the following features:
Under slung loads.
Deployment of cargo via Para drops.
