Right, these VBS2 shots of our models dressed in BIA's textures. As with the Lynx HMA.8 the Merlin HM1 isnt exactly ready for public show yet. but in our defence we are planning some pretty extensive features for it.
Merlin HM.1
Based on the EH101 (now AW101) the HM1 is the Royal Navy's Anti Submarine Warfare Specialist. The Lynx HMA8 has similar capabilities but cannot do the job quite as well as the Merlin.
The HM1 entered RN service in 1998 as a replacement for the SeaKing HAS.6 ASW. By late 2003 the last of 44 airframes was finally delivered. Designed to operate in all weathers from the flight decks of both larges and medium (type 23 Frigates) the Merlin provides not only Anti Submarine protection but retains the loadlifting, CASEVAC and troop carrying capabilites. Not to forget the Search and Rescue role that is not a large part of coastal operations.
RN Merlins are capable of carrying a variety of external ordinace on two hard points. Carrying up to Four Torpedoes or Depth charges for dealing with submarines and surface threats. They can also be armed with GPMGs mounted in the windows if required.
Merlins in ArmA2
We've pushed the HM1 to the lower end of our work queue for a variety of reasons. Foremost is that we have a feature set planned that requires some serious development. Work that would further delay the other projects if we were to do it. Plus its not like there are a great deal of naval units available in ArmA right now anyway.
As I said we're planning some pretty unique features. Of course all the usual stuff will be present:
- Dynamic Rotor System (DRS)
- Integrated Chaff & Flares
- Cargo System Support
- Radar Warning System (FCSS Required)
As well as:
- Sonar bouy dispenser (alerts the helo if a target enters its range)
- Dipping Sonar (Longer range detection than bouys)
- Torpedoes
- Ship compatibility (to get around roadway issues)
